SHAH ALAM, Jan 18 — The Selangor Aviation Show, scheduled to be held in April, will continue as planned but depending on the current situation, whether an extension of the movement control order (MCO) or the emergency order would have an impact.

State executive councillor for industry and commerce Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said the Selangor government has not yet made any arrangements to postpone two major events scheduled to be held this year, which include the airshow and the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS).

“Last year we had fully moved the SIBS online, including its three main components, which were held in the form of webinars and virtual expos,” said Teng, referring to the Selangor International Expo (SIE), the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC) and the Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC).

“I believe that no other states have made such efforts like Selangor did because we made earlier preparations and we will be improving it further… we are also pending the approval from the Selangor State Executive Council on the programmes that we have planned (for 2021),” said Teng during a press conference after the Selangor e-Bazar 11.11 Mega Sales campaign announcement held virtually today.

Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, Invest Selangor Bhd chief executive officer Dato’ Hasan Azhari Idris and Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping.

Teng said the aviation show, which will be held to further boost the aviation sector, is expected to launch on April 2. However, if postponed, he said the event would be expected to be held by the end of the year or in 2022.

“As for SIBS, for now, we have planned to have both virtual and physical event. But if we cannot have the programme done physically in October due to the MCO or other factors, then we will continue with via online,” he added.

The virtual version of the annual SIBS 2020 business event received an impressive turnout of 170,974 digital audiences.

The state-led Virtual SIBS 2020 which was held from October 14, 2020, was originally scheduled for four days but was extended by another three to allow the ‘large crowd’ to have more opportunities to create, connect and collaborate with top brands and industry players globally.

It garnered over 2,618 registered users.
