Selangor Budget 2021 initiatives expedited to boost economy

SHAH ALAM, Jan 20 — Some of the initiatives introduced in the Belanjawan Selangor 2021 (2021 Selangor Budget) are sped up to accelerate the state’s economic expansion and help its people following the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said among the budget’s strategies involved was the RM369 million spending for digitalisation programmes via funds from the state and its subsidiaries.

“The implementation of the MCO which started on January 13 had brought forward our digitalisation initiatives to help micro businesses, entrepreneurs and traders who were affected and thus, accelerating Selangor’s digitalisation agenda,” Amirudin said in a special address announcing the RM73.877 million Kita Selangor Package. 

Among the initiatives that were expedited are as follows: 

— RM10 million Yayasan Hijrah Selangor (Hijrah) initiative to assist 1,000 small F&B traders to do business online 

— Microcredit loan scheme application to support the operational expenditure and cost of business adaptation to the e-commerce platform

— RM5 million for the e-supply of micro and sundry businesses: Assistance to 1,000 micro and small sundry shops in the procurement of supply at lower prices, more easily and quickly through the digital platform managed by Hijrah 

— RM10 million allocation for Selangor Freelance initiative to offer more than 1,000 freelance job opportunities via the gig economy that covers blue-collar and skilled jobs such as digital marketing services, accountancy, coordination/administrative as well as social media account management

— RM3 million allocation to the Selangor Digital Partners initiative to appoint 1,000 individuals to guide the general public in terms of digital application usage especially among the business community, senior citizens and tertiary education students

— RM10 million Skim Niaga Darul Ehsan (NaDI) preliminary allocation for female entrepreneurs where 3,000 participants can immediately do business with temporary traders licence obtained from the local authorities with a minimum loan plan of RM1,000 to a maximum of RM3,000. Those without a business premise or licence from the Company Commission of Malaysia (SSM) are eligible to apply

— 24-hours-a-day Covid-19 mobile operational room which starts operating at the Smart Selangor C5i Operation Centre (SSOC). The centre is equipped with 3Gbps internet network, hybrid data centre, integrated communication system and Smart Data Platform that serves to document assistance management and support operational control management with Federal agencies which includes a centralised Covid-19 monitoring system in Real Time
