SHAH ALAM, Jan 26 — The Selangor government has launched its very own job search website www.selangorkerjaya.com.my to address the current unemployment crisis and pave the way for Selangor to become a high-income and Regional Smart State by 2025.

Its Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the service offered under the Selangor Kerjaya (Selangor Jobs) initiative would help both employers and job seekers in the job searching process.

“The website contains substantial information to be explored. Not only that, Selangor Kerjaya also interacts directly with the public via social media websites such as Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter and Whatsapp.

“Ten thousand suitable job opportunities will be created in tandem with the skilled workforce available using three methods — via profiling, upskilling and job placement — within the span of the three years

“The service is free and is borne completely by the state government to create job opportunities for the people of Selangor,” said Amirudin during the virtual launch of the Selangor Kerjaya initiative today.

Developed with a total allocation of RM58 million, Amirudin said the initiative offers various employment opportunities to Selangor residents and will be focused on the development of the aerospace industry to create high skilled jobs in the state.

He said the target for this year is to ensure a total of 2,000 jobs will be filled by tertiary education, high school and vocational training graduates as well as those who were retrenched during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Additionally, Amirudin said the state is going into the aerospace industry as part of its efforts in creating a new income stream which will spur high growth for its economy.

“We are taking the approach of familiarising with the aerospace industry where 60 per cent of the income will be contributed by companies operating in the state such as GEs Engine Services Sdn Bhd, Aerobus Malaysia and UMW Aerospace Sdn Bhd,” he said, adding that the move will turn Selangor into the main hub for the aerospace industry in the country.

“Selangor is keen on attracting investors from the high-value industries to invest in the state thus offering high-skilled jobs which will elevate the salary scale of the workforce and create a high-income society.

“Therefore, I hope all the young people out there, especially the graduates, would grab this opportunity, to build a career out of it and strengthen the economy,” he added.

The Selangor Kerjaya initiative was introduced in the Selangor’s third economic stimulus package, themed Strengthening People’s Resilience, Stimulating State Prosperity, announced by Amirudin on July 13, 2020.
