SHAH ALAM, Jan 28 — The Selangor government is currently reviewing the proposals of five highway projects to be built in the state.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and public amenities Izham Hashim said the evaluation include the impacts of the highway network construction to the residents, environment, as well as road congestion, should the approval be given.
“The projects are under the Federal government. They contacted us to propose the network and the decision will be made at the state administrative level.
“We will be reviewing the projects from all aspects. Usually, we do not oppose it because the projects would contribute to better connection yet it must be accompanied with strict conditions to avoid issues in the future,” said Izham during the ‘Apa Khabar Selangor’ talk show broadcasted live on Selangor’s Parti Amanah Negara Facebook page last night.
He said one of the projects involving Bangi and Putrajaya were being discussed in the state executive council meeting seeing that it involves the Sungai Langat river.
“We are concerned that this project would impact the rivers, cause pollution and may even force residents to relocate. Therefore, it must be carefully assessed and analysed before any approval is given,” he said.
