SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin have decreed the people not to abandon their responsibility to protect stray animals, especially cats and dogs.
Both the Sultan and Tengku Permaisuri said all parties must have compassion and help to protect stray animals together.
“Their Highnesses are both upset because there are some parties that inflict cruelty towards stray animals and do not know the best ways to protect them, especially during the movement control order (MCO) period,” a statement issued by the Istana Alam Shah read today.
The Ruler had also ordered local authorities to not paint the issue in a bad light, and instead be more proactive and wiser in engaging the matter.
His Royal Highness also said that the Turkish government’s method in managing stray animals should be emulated to keep the innocent creatures from being abused or violated by any irresponsible parties.
“Their Highnesses hope that the people and all the communities, especially in Selangor, would continue to exercise compassion and continue to care for stray animals as well as show concern towards their rights and welfare,” said the statement.
Meanwhile, both the Sultan and Tengku Permaisuri had also reminded the people to continue complying with the standard operating procedure (SOP) under the MCO guidelines by wearing the face masks and only going out of the house whenever necessary to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
