Selangor Xtiv Virtual e-sports event starts in March

By Khairul Azran Hussin

SHAH ALAM, Jan 15 — The Selangor Xtiv Virtual 2021 is scheduled to begin in March with a targeted participation of 300,000 people from within and outside the country, said state executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

He said organising the virtual sports is in line with youth demand these days aside from providing a platform for them to showcase their talent in e-sports.

“The inaugural competition held since May last year had recorded more than 180,000 participants which was beyond our expectation.

“After seeing the positive response, the Selangor government agreed to continue running the competition this year,” Mohd Khairuddin told SelangorKini today.

The online competition includes the Selangor Xtiv Virtual e-Sports, Selangor Xtiv Virtual Run, Selangor Martial Art Xtiv, Selangor Xtiv Fifa Pro Club and Selangor Xtiv Virtual Youth Busking.

The events attracted participants from Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Japan, India and the United States of America.

Selangor is the only state that has successfully organised a large-scale virtual sports programme with prizes to win.
