Taman Sri Muda residents undergo free Covid-19 screening

SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — Residents around Taman Sri Muda at Section 25 here begin undergoing the free Covid-19 community screening organised by the state government today.

According to SelangorKini, hundreds of people started queuing up as early as 8am to take the Covid-19 test inside the compound of Dewan Azalea in Taman Sri Muda.

Those present were seen adhering to the standard operating procedure (SOP) by registering with the SELangkah (Step In Safely) mobile application and taking their body temperatures.

The location of the screening was guarded closely by enforcers from Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), police and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).

The free Covid-19 community screening programme that ends tomorrow is handled by 35 medical officers from Selcare Clinic and assisted by Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia’s Response and Relief Team (Imaret).

The screening is similar to the operation conducted at Jalan Batu Unjur 3A, Taman Bayu Perdana and Meru in Klang, and used the Antigen rapid test kits (RTK-Ag) to detect Covid-19 infections in less than 30 minutes.

The Selangor government had conducted large-scale Covid-19 health screening in several hotspot locations since April 11 last year to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad announced in a statement that the screening was ramped up to ensure that the Covid-19 infectivity rate goes below 5 per cent as currently the rate still ranges between 7 and 25 per cent.

Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said if 20 positive cases were detected among 100 screened individuals, it means there are still many undetected cases in the community.

Yesterday, Selangor continued to register the highest daily Covid-19 cases in the country with 965 infections including one imported case, with half of it recorded in the Klang district.
