Amazon Global Selling provides tools, services for Malaysians to sell online

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 5 — Amazon Global Selling has provided over 250 new innovative tools, services, and logistics to support global sellers to succeed amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Amazon’s online stores have enabled hundreds of thousands of sellers, including those from Malaysia, to sustain and even grow their sales despite the health crisis and beyond.

Malaysia possesses a competitive advantage in manufacturing and e-commerce.

“There are many Malaysian sellers who have captured the fast-changing trends, which resulted in international expansion through Amazon, especially in product categories such as jewellery, health and personal care, and home.

“As the transformation continues, now is the ideal time for Malaysian sellers to go online to set up a global business presence,” it said in a statement today.

In conjunction with the transformation for Malaysian sellers, Amazon holds its inaugural Amazon Southeast Asia Online Seller Summit 2021 for Malaysia for two days starting yesterday.

This first seller summit, themed “Go Global, Sell on Amazon”, aims to provide long-term educational support for Malaysians who are looking to sell on Amazon.

This support builds on Amazon’s current initiatives such as the online seller education series, Seller University to help sellers grow their sales in Amazon’s stores worldwide.

The online event, joined by representatives from the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti), industry partners, and sellers from Malaysia, garnered a total of over 1,000 registrations.

At the opening speech, Senior Minister cum MITI Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said government agencies such as the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) actively encourages small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to leverage on e-commerce websites to reach out to a wider spectrum of consumers worldwide.

“We are glad to see Amazon having its first virtual seller summit in Malaysia. This very event complements the many efforts of the government in advancing digitalisation throughout all value chains.

“We hope the local SMEs will capitalise on this opportunity by digitising and internationalising the uniqueness and desirability of Malaysian brands for the global audience,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amazon Global Selling head in Southeast Asia, Bernard Tay said through this virtual seller summit, the company hopes to support Malaysian sellers to tap into their potential and promote the future of Malaysian products via Amazon’s online stores.

“We have seen cross-border e-commerce continuing to grow in the past year. Amazon’s innovative tools, services, and robust network worldwide will empower local SMEs to overcome operational barriers, embrace cross-border e-commerce opportunities, and expand their global footprint,” he added.
