Drum beats mesmerise viewers of Selangor CNY virtual celebration

SHAH ALAM, Feb 13 — The drum beats performed by the cultural group ‘Hands Percussion Malaysia’ mesmerised viewers who watched the Selangor 2021 Chinese New Year virtual celebration programme last night.

A lively performance entitled ‘Reunion’ opened the curtain of the show that was broadcasted live on the Facebook page of Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at 9pm.

The beats of the traditional drums that are synonym with the Tiong Hua community came in the sixth minute of the show before the presentation of a letter and brief positive message from Amirudin.

Not only that viewers are also shown a documentary on the ‘Teochew Puppet’ from the Teochew Puppet and Opera group.

In the documentary, the puppet master Goh Hui Ling who is also Kim Giak Low Choon Teochew Puppet Troupe director shared the history of the art.

In the sharing, she said the traditional art has many Chinese cultural values such as loyalty in friendship, parental love and loyalty in romance.

The more than an hour-long special programme organised by the state government also showcased several performances such as singing, dancing and other cultural performances.
