KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 — The government has agreed to lift the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Kampung Teluk in Setiawan, Perak and Felda Triang 3 in Bera, Pahang tomorrow.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO at Felda Triang 3, which started on February 18, would end earlier than scheduled (March 3).
“To date, the Health Ministry (MOH) has conducted 237 screening tests, of which 11 (Covid-19) positive cases were recorded. However, the MOH confirms the infection situation in this locality is showing a downward trend, has been contained and no more samples are awaiting results.
“Therefore, the government, on the advice of the MOH, has agreed to end the EMCO at Felda Triang 3 in Bera, Pahang, on February 24,” he told a news conference on the development of the MCO here, today.
On the EMCO in Kampung Teluk, Setiawan which started on February 11, Ismail Sabri said 26 Covid-19 positive cases have been recorded from 131 screening tests carried out by the MOH.
Ismail Sabri said the MOH also confirmed that the positive cases at the locality were showing a downward trend and no new cases were detected after February 17.
“After conducting a risk assessment with various agencies under the MCO Technical Committee, the government agrees to end the EMCO at Kampung Teluk, Setiawan, Perak on February 24 as scheduled,” he said.
On compulsory screening for foreign workers, Ismail Sabri said a total of 15,399 foreign workers have been tested yesterday and 97 out of them turned out to be Covid-19 positive.
“Cumulatively, the Human Resource Ministry informed that a total of 458,919 foreign workers have been screened for Covid-19 involving 22,912 employers, and from the total, 8,101 people were confirmed positive while 450,818 others were negative,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said 321 individuals were nabbed yesterday for defying the standard operating procedures, of which 286 people were compounded, 29 remanded and six were released on police bail.
He added that 17 illegal immigrants and four skippers were detained while 11 land vehicles were also seized in yesterday’s Op Benteng.
