SHAH ALAM, Feb 18 — The Selangor government will be distributing food baskets to five groups affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which will be delivered in stages starting this month, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Menteri Besar said the initiative will benefit 6,233 taxi drivers (including local taxi, airport taxi, rental vehicle and limousine), 1,601 bus drivers, 8,432 Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad Waste Management truck drivers, 6,000 Orang Asal head of household and 2,361 tenants of the People’s Housing Project (PPR).

He said the state government will also disburse RM50 to 3,004 residents in the Lebah Subang 1 PPR despite the housing project is under the purview of the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

“The distribution of the basic necessities may not be much, but we hope that it would ease the burden of those affected by the movement control order (MCO),” said Amirudin during a press conference at the Menteri Besar residence today.

Amirudin had today received RM4.35 million of contribution for the Selangor Food Basket Aid Fund during a handover ceremony in collaboration with Bingkisan Mesra Sdn Bhd (BMSB), Perumahan & Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd (PHSSB) and the Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia (YBFM), which will be coordinated by the Urban Welfare and Housing Committee.

The food basket consists of either dry food or cooked food and will be carried out in stages and coordinated by several state departments, agencies and subsidiaries such as the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI), Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS), and Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad Waste Management, with the help of the state representatives’ community service centres.

On January 20, the state government had announced a total allocation of RM1.3 million to execute the food basket initiative for those hit by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The initiative is part of the Kita Selangor Package with a total allocation of RM73.877 million.
