INSKEN aims to train 15,000 entrepreneurs this year

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 — Institut Keusahawanan Negara Bhd (INSKEN) targets to train 15,000 entrepreneurs from all over the country via 336 entrepreneurship training programmes this year.

Chief executive officer Muhamad Firdaus Azharuddin said five new industries would be introduced to help entrepreneurs digitalise their business, thus enhancing their business scale especially in increasing sales.

He said the five new industries were elderly care, sports and extreme activities, tuition centres, kindergartens, and babysitting services.

“Following the difficult situations faced since 2020, INSKEN is confident that the organisation of the entrepreneurship programmes based on results will ensure this objective is achievable in 2021,” he said in a virtual media briefing on the Covid-19 Pandemic Small and Medium Entrepreneurs Survival Initiative today.

Last year, 15 industries were involved in nurturing entrepreneurs including spa, car workshop, catering, tailoring, and homestay.

Muhamad Firdaus said INSKEN is poised to receive an allocation of almost RM12 million from the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (Medac for entrepreneurship training this year.

Meanwhile, he said INSKEN had trained 78,872 entrepreneurs via 390 programmes that were held virtually last year with the main focus on ensuring entrepreneurs remained resilient during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“A total of 452 new jobs have been created and total increased sales of RM14.9 million from the four-month coaching programmes known as INSKEN Bumiputera Business Coaching and Bumiputera Business Enhancement Programme,” he added.

Among other programmes held last year were INSKEN Networking Session/Meet the Champion, INSKEN Business Training and INSKEN Business Outreach.
