MB: Selangor residents to receive Covid-19 vaccine by May, June

SHAH ALAM, Feb 22 — The Selangor government expects to receive between two to five million doses of Covid-19 vaccine by May or June.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the vaccine is crucial to assist in speeding up the process of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

“Insya-Allah (Godwilling) that when it arrives, we will announce its distribution. The actual amount of the vaccine is yet to be determined but it involves a large quantity and high cost,” he said.

Amirudin was met by reporters after launching the Preventing Outbreak at Ignition Sites (POIS) programme at the Nestle factory in Section 15 here today.

Also present were state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and the Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd chief executive officer Juan Aranols.

Amirudin said the status of the Covid-19 supply and distribution in Selangor was discussed with the Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) Minister today.

He explained that the discussion was focused on the amount of vaccine to be distributed in Selangor.

Previously, Amirudin had announced that the state administration will purchase Covid-19 vaccine to curb the spread of the pandemic aside from helping to ease the Federal government’s burden.

He said the move is also to ensure that there will be sufficient vaccine supply for the residents of Selangor thus securing the health of its people in general.
