More states in Peninsula receive Covid-19 vaccine

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 — More states in Peninsular Malaysia are receiving the supply of Covid-19 vaccine, Comirnaty, produced by Pfizer-BioNTech on the second day of the first phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Melaka, Kelantan, Perak, Pahang and Perlis received the vaccine supply yesterday.

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme started yesterday with Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin being the first individual to receive the vaccine.

In KEDAH, a DHL lorry carrying 2,340 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrived safely at about 12.40 pm today at the Integrated Pharmacy Logistics Unit store of the Langkawi Health Office at the Air Hangat Clinic.

The lorry had travelled from Penang International Airport to Kuala Perlis Jetty in Perlis before using the RORO ferry service to Tanjung Lembung, Langkawi.

It is understood that a total of 12 vaccinators will receive the shots this Sunday followed by 400 frontliners of the Langkawi Health Office.

In TERENGGANU, the first batch of the vaccines involving more than 16,000 doses arrived safely at the Main Pharmacy Unit of the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Kuala Terengganu at 1.30 pm.

Three vaccine storage centres in Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman and Setiu also received the supply of vaccines today.

State Health director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus said the vaccination process for all frontliners would start on March 2.

Meanwhile, Terengganu Civil Defence Force (APM) director Mohd Rosman Abdullah said a total of 530 officers and personnel would get the shots in the first phase of immunisation programme in the state.

In PENANG, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow will get the first shot on Sunday.

“To date, the Penang Health Department has informed that a total of 15 Vaccine Administration Centres have been identified involving three halls for each district in the state,” he said in a statement.

In KELANTAN, the state received its first batch of 18,720 doses of vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech at about 3.30pm today at the Kelantan state police headquarters.

The vaccine, which arrived in a DHL van escorted by police, was received by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob.

Ahmad told reporters that he would be the first individual in Kelantan to receive the vaccine shot, at the launch of the state-level immunisation exercise at Dewan Utama Kompleks Kota Darulnaim, Kota Bharu on Monday.

“At the launch, I will be among 140 individuals comprising frontliners and state Exco members to be inoculated. I urge the people of Kelantan to sign up for the vaccination exercise, which will be conducted in stages,” he added.

He said 39 locations in the state had been identified for use as Vaccine Dispensing Centres (PPV).

In MELAKA, all state executive councillors will be required to take the vaccine shot during the first phase of the exercise, which will begin on March 2 at the Kompleks Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said state Exco members were considered as frontliners and thus required to be vaccinated.

“I will be the first person to receive the jab, and all Exco members will also be inoculated, no exception.

“If they don’t take it, they cannot be Exco members,” he added.
