Penang bridge safe to use despite fire incident — Plus

GEORGE TOWN, Feb 23 — Plus Malaysia Bhd has assured the public that the integrity of the Penang Bridge remains intact and it is safe for use despite yesterday’s fire which affected TNB cables located under KM3.2 of the bridge.

In a statement here today, Plus said the fire was extinguished at 7.30pm yesterday and no one was injured in the incident.

It said the right lanes on both sides of the bridge at the fire incident location would remain closed for a few days to facilitate investigations being jointly carried out by TNB, the Fire and Rescue Department and the police.

“During this period, Plus encourages all road users to use the Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah to lessen congestion caused by the lane closures,” it added.
