PETALING JAYA, Feb 3 — The state government is willing to take over the management of the Lembah Subang 1 People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats to solve the issue of inefficient management that affects its thousands of residents.

State executive councillor for Housing and Urban Wellbeing Rodziah Ismail said several conditions need to be agreed before the matter is handed over to the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS).

She explained it includes the release of rights in the form of a memorandum that covers the settlement of costs, repairs and upgrading of the property.

“An agreement document also need to be created between the Federal and state governments to preserve the interests of both parties. The termination of the contract must be made in an orderly manner to ensure that no difficulties or issues arise,” she said during a visit to the PPR flats.

She added the write-off programme involving outstanding rents, errant tenants and liabilities also need to be resolved.

“In addition to that documents and inventory of records related to rental and management must be handed to LPHS,” said Rodziah.

Previously residents of the low cost flats claimed they had to live with uncollected garbage and smelly conditions for almost five years due to the failure of the company contracted to manage the bulk waste.
