Yawas: Nearly 500 applications received for special needs support

SHAH ALAM, Feb 17 — Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) has received 485 applications for the Bantuan Khas Anak Istimewa Selangor (Anis) scheme within 24 hours it was opened for registration on Monday.

Yawas assistant corporate manager Sharizan Mohd Shariff said that the number of approved applicants this year is likely to be higher compared to last year.

“The number of recipients will be based on the state government’s allocation. The limit for one special needs (OKU) child is RM5,000 per year.

“Since its introduction in 2019, more than RM950,000 was used to help recipients of the programme,” he told SelangorKini.

Sharizan said this year’s assistance has been improved by providing supplementary food supply as there were recipients who have nutrition-related problems.

“The same goes for the channelling of the aid. Previously, we received quotations from the recipients but this time we use an appointed panel to provide assistance,” he said.

Beginning Monday, people with OKU children aged 18 and below can apply for the aid via the website at http://www.anis.yawas.my.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in the 2021 Selangor Budget had announced an allocation amounting to RM3.25 million for the programme and initiatives to empower the OKU including holding support awareness seminars for the special needs children.
