53.2 million Smart Selangor Bus users since inception, ‘Scan to Ride’ system now in use

SHAH ALAM, March 2 — A total of 53.2 million passengers of the Smart Selangor Bus have benefitted from the facility since it started on July 1, 2015, said state executive councillor for public transportation Ng Sze Han.

Ng said the passenger traffic indicates that the initiative by the state government to provide free bus services was received well by the people.

“To date, a total of 136 Smart Selangor Buses are running on 43 routes under 12 local authorities in the state.

“The free bus service will be maintained for Malaysian citizens while a charge of RM0.90 per journey will be imposed on foreign nationals starting March 15, 2021,” he said when launching the “Scan To Ride” mobile application at the Menara Bank Simpanan Nasional here yesterday.

Ng urged users to begin downloading the Citizen E-Payment Platform (CEPat) mobile application in order to use the ‘Scan to Ride’ function to ride the Smart Selangor Bus beginning March 1.

“However, bus passengers above the age of 60 and children are not required to use this app, instead, they only need to produce their identity card (MyKad),” he said.

He said the ‘Scan to Ride’ system enables passengers to pay their bus fare by scanning the QR code at the bus entrance and exit.

“The system was introduced by the state government to increase the use of digital technology and cashless payment in line with the Smart Selangor 2025 vision.

“It can also be used to maintain and upgrade the Smart Selangor Bus routes in the future,” said Ng.

Meanwhile, Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) managing director Dr Fahmi Ngah said as of December last year, 11,000 users have downloaded the CEPat application.

“We are targeting more than 200,000 users to use the application. SSDU will also be improving several other services in time to come,” he said.

Aside from the ‘Scan to Ride’ feature, CEPat is a centralised electronic payment system that also offers services for assessment tax, compound, licencing, facility rental and utility bill payments.
