Air Selangor: Scheduled maintenance works to improve water services

SHAH ALAM, March 24 — Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) has today announced several scheduled maintenance works to be executed throughout the year to improve the water treatment and distribution services for its customers.

Air Selangor Corporate Communications head Elina Baseri in a statement today said that the two scheduled maintenance works were approved by the National Water Service Commission (SPAN) and will affect several areas in the districts of Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Gombak, and Kuala Lumpur.

“Air Selangor would like to clarify that the scheduled maintenance works are carried out to ensure that the assets and water distribution system is at an optimum level.

“The improvement of the pipeline infrastructure is also part of Air Selangor’s efforts in improving the quality of its service for the future convenience of the consumers,” said Elina in the statement.

She said that the maintenance works have taken into account several factors before execution of the operation, which includes avoiding the works to be carried out within seven days before and after a festive season, on any important dates such as sporting events or assemblies, as well as on during major government school examinations.

She said the duration of the scheduled disruption and the restoration of water supply following the maintenance works will vary from one area to another depending on the location of the consumers’ premises as well as the water pressure level on the water distribution system.

“Air Selangor would like to advise the affected consumers to store water adequately and to use water prudently during this temporary scheduled disruption,” the statement read.

The following are the details of the planned maintenance works:

1. Removal and connecting new pipes near the Carlsberg factory at Persiaran Selangor in Section 15, Shah Alam, which will cause a scheduled water supply disruption for 48 hours.

The operation, which was initially scheduled to be carried on January 12 but was postponed following the enforced movement control order (MCO), will begin on March 30 from 9am to 9pm.

The scheduled works will cause water disruption in five areas in Petaling, 14 in Klang, and 11 in Shah Alam, beginning March 30 from 9am, and water is expected to be fully restored on April 1 at 9am.

2. Valve replacement works in the raw water pipeline from the Klang Gates Dam, which will cause the temporary shutdown of the Bukit Nanas and Wangsa Maju Water Treatment Plants (WTPs). This will result in a 68-hour water supply disruption.

The works will commence on April 6 from 9am to 9pm and 12 areas in Gombak and 46 areas in Kuala Lumpur will be affected by water cuts beginning April 6 from 9am. Water is expected to be fully restored to the areas on April 9 at 5am.

Meanwhile, Elina said Air Selangor is also planning to carry out maintenance works at several of its WTPs, namely the Cheras Batu 11 WTP on June 15, Sungai Langat WTP on July 6, and Sungai Selangor WTP on October 5.

“However, these maintenance works are subject to approval by SPAN. Air Selangor will inform on the areas affected by the scheduled maintenance works and detailed information on the restoration of water supply will be given out once the approval by SPAN is received,” she added.
