SEPANG, March 20 — The organisers of the 2021 Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship hope that spectators will be allowed to come and watch the races live from the second round slated to begin in early April.
Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd director Ron Hogg said the presence of spectators was very important in enlivening the venue, thus motivating the riders to perform better on the circuit.
“Although there is no entrance fee, we really hope for the audience to come as the atmosphere is very different without them.
“The presence of spectators is also important for the commercial aspect. Last year, some sponsors withdrew due to the absence of spectators,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the championship’s new season at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) here yesterday.
The ceremony was officiated by Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) president Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.
The first round of the race will take place today and Sunday in Sepang Selatan, followed by the second round in Sepang Utara (April 3-4).
A total of 10 rounds are expected to be held in the 2021 season with the last round to take place in Sepand Utara from December 18-19.
On Thursday, the National Security Council (NSC) technical committee had agreed to allow spectators to be present at stadiums or venues for sports tournaments such as the Malaysia League beginning April 1.
Among the set conditions is to only allow 10 per cent of spectator capacity or 2,000 people (whichever is lower) in conditional movement control order (CMCO) areas, while for recovery MCO (RMCO) areas, it is 25 per cent of spectator capacity or 8,000 people.
