EMCO on Kampung Serumah in Sarawak ends tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 — The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) imposed on Kampung Serumah, Siburan, Serian Division in Sarawak will end as scheduled tomorrow, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the decision was made based on the Covid-19 risk assessment undertaken by various agencies in the movement control order (MCO) Technical Committee.

“The Health Ministry (MOH) confirmed that cases have dropped and clusters are under control with no results pending for test samples.

“So far MOH had conducted 462 screening tests and of this number, a cumulative total of 27 cases were recorded,” he said in a statement today.

On compliance with the standard operating procedure (SOP), he said 52 individuals were arrested yesterday for various offences, with 36 compounded and 16 remanded.

Conducting inter-district and interstate travel without permission and not practising physical distancing constituted the most number of offences with 12 each, not wearing face mask (11), premises operating beyond permissible hours or without permission (11), failure to provide equipment for recording customers’ particulars (three) and gambling activities (three).

In Operasi Benteng yesterday, 26 illegal immigrants were arrested and 10 land vehicles and four boats or ships were seized while seven illegal immigrants were turned away.

Apart from this, one construction site was ordered to close immediately after checks by the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) at 28 building sites throughout the country.

He also said 3,252 foreign workers underwent Covid-19 swab tests yesterday and 22 were found positive.

So far 634,082 foreign workers hired by 32,809 employers have been tested for Covid-19.
