Factories risk legal action for failure to get legalised — MPK

By Khairul Azran Hussin

KLANG, March 11 — The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has detected 800 factories operating without permission in the district, including near rivers.

Its deputy president Elya Marini Darmin said all the premises failed to meet technical requirements such as land condition status, zoning or planning permission.

According to her, the factories failed to cooperate despite being given a period until December last year to participate in the legalisation programme.

“Therefore, a joint enforcement action will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the law,” she said during the operation to demolish a sawmill operating without permission at Jalan Jeti in Port Klang, here, this morning.

Meanwhile, she said factories built on government land can be demolished within 24 hours even though the premises do not cause river pollution.

As of last November, a total of 5,589 factories were detected operating without permission throughout the state with 869 located downstream.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari previously gave until December 31, 2020, for all factories to carry out the legalisation process and relocation of their premises.
