KDA FC up in third spot as Penang FC slay Red Giants

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 — Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) moved up to third in the Super League standings after edging basement club UiTM FC 1-0 at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam last night.

Muhammad Faizat Mohamad Ghazli was the hero for KDA FC when he headed home a free kick taken by former UiTM FC player Rabih Ataya in the 41st minute to hand the visitors their third win from five matches this season.

KDA FC now have 10 points, the same as the top two sides — Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Terengganu FC, who both have a game in hand.

Super League newcomers Penang FC, meanwhile, stunned Selangor FC 2-0 to be placed fourth in the 12-team standings with eight points.

In the match played at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium, the Red Giants had most of the possession but it was visitors Penang FC who made the breakthrough in the 38th minute, courtesy of a strike by Mohamad Al-Hafiz Harun.

The second half saw Selangor FC, under the guidance of Karsten Nitzel, continue to dominate proceedings but it was the visitors who found the back of the net again, with Muhammad Daniel Ashraf Abdullah cleverly beating the offside trap to net Penang’s second goal of the night in the 73rd minute.

The third Super League match of the night saw Melaka United FC notching their first win of the season when they edged Kuala Lumpur City FC 2-1 at the Hang Jebat Stadium.

Brazilian Alex Dos Santos Goncalves put Melaka United FC 2-0 from two perfectly-taken penalties in the 52nd and 81st minutes before KL City FC tried to stage a late fightback with an 89th-minute goal by Abdul Aziz Rahim.

Meanwhile, in the Premier League, PDRM FC went down 2-1 to Kuching City FC at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium while Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II) defeated Perak II 3-2 at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin.
