Selangor may give out free face masks to students again

By Zareef Muzammil

GOMBAK, March 1 — The Selangor government is considering the need to increase free supply of face masks for students and teachers following the reopening of school sessions.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state administration will liaise with the Selangor State Education Department and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to discuss the matter.

“Prior to this, we have distributed more than one million reusable face masks to students and teachers but they may be ‘overused’ by now.

“So, I am considering the need to supply more (face masks) for them to use,” he said after visiting the reopening of a school at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Gombak Setia here today.

Previously, the Selangor government had announced a special contribution of one million free reusable face masks to students and teachers across the state.

The effort was to reduce the financial burden on parents who are obligated to provide their children with face masks for school to prevent the transmission of Covid-19.
