Solving Kota Damansara flash floods, residents to be compensated

By Aliff Fikri

SHAH ALAM, March 11 — Kota Damansara state assemblyman Shatiri Mansor is drafting a special initiative to ensure that flash floods will not recur in the future.

Shatiri said a flood mitigation project will be implemented soon.

He said that they are currently conducting a negotiation process with the local residents to implement the initiative.

“We may start the project within the first quarter or by the middle of this year.

“The residents involved in the evacuation due to the project will later be given compensation and get Rumah Selangorku,” he told SelangorKini.

The former Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) council member explained the flash flood was caused by river water that overflows from Sungai Pelempas into Kampung Melayu Subang (during heavy rain).

The people’s representative, since 2018, was also concerned about the traffic congestion caused by the construction of the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) which has yet to be completed.

To complicate matters, a portion of the link project at Persiaran Atmosfera which started construction in 2009 has not been completed.

“I hope work to complete the project will be expedited because it is causing traffic jams, in fact, there are accidents that resulted in fatalities. As it is, four to five motorcyclists had died after hitting barriers that were placed there,” he said.

A believer of the open-door policy, Shatiri also takes note of the economic issues of the people and problems faced by low-income groups at the People’s Housing Project (PPR).

Thus, he set up emergency aid through contributions in the form of essential food items such as food aid and financial aid to assist those in need.

“I practise an open-door policy concept, people can meet me without having to set up appointments. I have a slot every Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm at the Kota Damansara constituency’s service centre,” he said.

Shatiri also set up a complaint system through his portal at shatirimansor.com and at mobile number 012-998 7220 to enable residents to contact his officers.

“Everybody can lodge a complaint and I welcome them regardless of political ideology. To be more people-friendly, we also have the Shatiri Mansor fan club page on Facebook,” he said.

He also hoped that the state government would complete the building of two mosques at Kota Damansara 2 and Subang Bestari that cost RM30 million, following an issue with the planning.

The matter had been raised at the State Legislative  Assembly meeting.

“I also hope that the aerospace industry at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Skypark) can be enhanced,” said Shatiri who has 23 years of experience as an engineer in that field.

Contesting as a representative from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), he won the last general election with a majority of 15,703 votes to beat candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN), PAS and the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM).

Kota Damansara is a state constituency under the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat.
