Sports and recreational activities allowed in CMCO, RMCO areas — KBS

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 — Sports and recreational activities for health, fitness, training purposes, as well as games or matches, are now allowed in areas under the conditional movement control order (CMCO) and recovery movement control order (RMCO) beginning today.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) in a statement said that the permission was subject to the movement control order in force in the areas concerned, as well as the permission of the relevant authorities.

For the organisation of tournaments or competitions at the national level, such as the Malaysian Football League (M-League), Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) and Sepak Takraw League (STL), police permission is required for inter-state travel.

The competitions must also be held in accordance with the Sports Bubble Model, without the presence of spectators.

Meanwhile, parties involved in international-level tournaments must get prior approval from KBS.

According to the ministry, phased central training for M-League, MHL, STL teams on a ‘home or quarantine camp’ basis, as well as centralised training programmes under the National Sports Council and the respective state sports council on a ‘quarantine camp’ basis, are allowed during the two movement control orders.

Also allowed are group activities where participants remain in their respective spaces, such as aerobics and yoga, at 50 per cent capacity of the area concerned, and under strict supervision.

However, activities that involve the movement and gathering of a large number of people that make physical distancing difficult to observe, such as ‘fun runs’, ‘fun rides’, marathon, and triathlons are not allowed.

Meanwhile, the ministry said the SOPs were slightly different in Sabah and Sarawak, and the public is advised to refer to the National Security Council’s website for more information.

The government recently announced the implementation of the CMCO in Selangor, Penang, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur from March 5 to 18, while Melaka, Pahang, Terengganu, Perlis, Sabah, Putrajaya and Labuan were placed under the RMCO for the same period.

Sarawak will remain under the RMCO until March 15.
