State govt, factory operators to review methods for workers’ vaccination

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SABAK BERNAM, March 27 — The Selangor government and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) are assessing the suitable mechanism and formats to provide Covid-19 vaccine to industrial workers.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the move aims to vaccinate workers sooner to enable the sector to operate fully and help recover the economy.

“The industry players do not have a problem and they are eager for their workers to be immunised. So, we are now working out the matter with the factory operators.

“The state government has already planned to purchase the vaccine to focus on the industrial sector because we want them to return to operating in full capacity. Now, the factory operations are involving only between 30 and 40 per cent of their workers,” Amirudin said after launching the Selangor Public Library at Dataran Sabak, here yesterday.

On Thursday, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that Cabinet ministers had instructed for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme to give priority to Selangor as the state is the nation’s economic driver aside from its substantial volume of industrial areas.

Following that, the government will collaborate with the industrial sector to roll out the vaccination process either at the factory premises or at the workers’ hostels.
