Two-hour limit parking spots in congested areas

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, March 9 — The Selangor state government will provide designated parking bays in congested areas for a maximum of two hours.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the measure is to overcome congestion and allow everyone to get a parking spot in the said areas.

Ng said the parking rate will be fixed at 50 sen for every 30 minutes (as compared to 50 or 60 sen for every hour at public parking bays under the local authorities) and users who surpass the maximum parking limit allowed will be compounded.

“This will be enforced after the amendment to schedule under the Road Transport Order (Car Parking Place Allocation), which is used by the local authorities in the state, has been gazetted,” he said during a press conference at Wisma MBSA here.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam mayor Datuk Haris Kasim said the move will be implemented in three locations namely Glenmarie, Kota Kemuning and Sungai Buloh.

Haris said the setting-up of the designated parking lots will help more people to carry out their tasks in congested areas without having to wait long for a parking spot.

“The areas concerned were at the early recommendation stage and will be further expanded,” he said.
