UMT Royal Education Award recipients determined to champion environmental issues

KUALA NERUS, March 27 — Two recipients of the Royal Education Award at the 18th Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) convocation ceremony, here, are determined to make more contributions to the global community and the environment in the future.

One of them, Mogesh Sababathy, 23, said the award is a motivation for him to continue to share his experience as a mentor with UMT juniors, and also with the world community in fighting for issues related to the environment and ocean.

“All this will not be achieved without the opportunities provided by the university because I have the experience of representing UMT and the country to six international conferences,” he said when met by reporters after the convocation ceremony today.

The Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology graduate is also a finalist for the 2021 Commonwealth Youth Award which founded the “Ocean Hope Project” aimed at raising awareness on issues of oceans and environmental conservation through youth leadership campaigns and training.

Meanwhile, the other recipient, Siti Diana Kamila Nadim, 24, a graduate of Bachelor of Applied Science (Biodiversity Conservation and Management) said: “My friends and lecturers have been most helpful during my studies at UMT. Most importantly, do whatever it takes with sincerity and make sure we have a deep interest in exploring further in the field because only those two things can help us be more focused and have a deeper vision to succeed,” she said.

A total of 2,878 graduates “attended” the 18th convocation ceremony (first series).

In order to comply with the standard operating procedures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, only 12 graduates were physically present at the convocation ceremony.
