9,916 senior citizens vaccinated to date

SUNGAI PETANI, April 24 — A total of 9,916 senior citizens nationwide have received the first dose of vaccine under the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme so far.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun said the feedback received by her office found that all those who had been vaccinated were reported to be in good condition.

“All praises be to Allah, we pray that they remain healthy with no harm. Rumours abound have caused some doubts but after getting vaccinated they are all in good condition,” she said.

She told reporters after presenting financial assistance for the annual operation of the Northern Zone Senior Citizens Activity Centres (PAWE) 2021 here today.

On the financial assistance, Rina said her ministry through the Social Welfare Department channeled an allocation of RM600,000 to 12 PAWEs in Kedah and RM150,000 for three PAWEs in Perlis.

Earlier, in a media report, Rina was quoted as saying that a total of 36,000 senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwP) were scheduled to receive the vaccination in the second phase and of that number, a total of 25,000 recipients were senior citizens.

Rina urged more senior citizens to register to receive the vaccine either through MySejahtera application or at the district health centre or through her ministry’s volunteers.

Meanwhile, she said it was estimated that between 8,000 to 10,000 senior citizens who were in institutions, including old folks homes, would receive the vaccination after this.
