C4’s report irresponsible, Yawas urges withdrawal of its name

SHAH ALAM, April 15 — The Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) urges the Center to Combat Corruption & Cronyism (C4) to withdraw its name from the anti-graft group’s report that linked it to financial scandals.

Stressing that the C4’s allegations were baseless, its general manager Gan Pei Nei said the impression made on the foundation in the report titled “Foundations and Donations: Political Financing, Corruption and the Pursuit of Power” was irresponsible.

“This method of reporting and listing without fact-checking and getting reviews from Yawas has created a false and negative perception…thus affecting the image of the Selangor state government.

“On the principle of fair reporting, the section concerning Yawas in the C4 report must be withdrawn,” she said in a statement today.

She said the foundation always adhered to corporate governance as prescribed by law, and added that Yawas’s management procedures were also bound by the rulings of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

Gan also explained that Yawas’ annual financial statements were also audited by external auditors and monitored by the Internal Audit Department of the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI).

“In fact, an audit conducted by the National Audit (Department) on Yawas in 2018 found that the management of Yawas to be at a satisfactory level,” she said.

In the C4 report, Yawas is listed in the appendix along with the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal as well as several cases involving Umno-BN (Barisan Nasional) politicians.
