SHAH ALAM, April 25 — A total of 27 Covid-19 cases were detected from the free community screening held at Bandar Sungai Long in Kajang yesterday, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said 634 individuals had taken part in the screening operation which was carried out at the Home of Karn En welfare centre.

“The hot weather and Ramadan month had not hindered the community screening operation in order to contain the outbreak.

“As we are worried over the upsurge in Covid-19 cases, the state government will increase the free screenings. We hope that the efforts will help in battling (the outbreak),” he said on Facebook

Amirudin said aside from compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), early detection of the virus is important in order to isolate the cases and trace close contacts to break the chain of infection.

On Monday, Amirudin said that targeted screening will be held to trace the coronavirus within the community to prevent the fourth wave.

He said a special committee to control the spread of Covid-19 in schools in Selangor, headed by the State Education Department and comprised the State Health Department and State Disaster Management Unit, was formed to identify hotspots across the state.

Yesterday, the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) was implemented at Sekolah Menengah (SM) Sains Banting, Kuala Langat, until May 7 after a Form 1 student was detected to have Covid-19 symptoms on April 12.

A total of 19 schools in Selangor were closed for seven days from April 19 to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
