Covid-19 screening in areas near school focuses on four districts

SHAH ALAM, April 24 — Covid-19 community screening in localities near schools in Selangor will start next week focusing on four districts.

State executive councillor on public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said the districts are Petaling, Klang, Hulu Langat and Gombak which have been identified as high-risk locations for Covid-19 infection.

She said the selection of the schools is determined by a special task force consisting of the Selangor State Health Department and the Selangor State Education Department.

“They (the special task force) had meetings a few days ago and will determine where the screening will be done because we (the state government) do not have the detailed information,” she said after attending the 2021 Hybrid Selangor Women’s Conference at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here today.

The conference was held in conjunction with the virtual Ekspo Hasil Suri Selangor (Selangor Housewives’ Crafts and Products Expo, or HaSSel) that starts today.

A total of 19 schools in Selangor were closed for seven days since Monday to curb the increase in school clusters.

Over the past week, the Selangor government has been monitoring the outbreak among schools before taking further action.

It includes detecting the source of the infection as well as the potential spread of the case.
