EMCO in three localities in Sabah, Sarawak extended until May 9

KUALA LUMPUR, April 24 — The enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in three localities, involving two areas in Sabah and one in Sarawak that was scheduled to end tomorrow has been extended until May 9.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the two localities in Sabah were Bandar Sri Indah and Kampung Titingan in the Tawau district, while in Sarawak it involved Sungai Passin, Matu.

“The Ministry of Health (MOH) reports that there are still (Covid-19) transmissions among residents of Bandar Sri Indah and Kampung Titingan.

“The MOH also reported that there are still transmissions among the residents in the EMCO area (in Sungai Passin) and the last case reported was on April 19, with five positive cases in total,” he said in a statement today.

Apart from that, Ismail Sabri also announced the EMCO was lifted in six localities in the Tawau district, Sabah starting tomorrow involving Taman Cahaya, Jalan Tengku Osman, Tawau Fire Quarters, Jalan Mesra, Taman Golden Hill and Taman Sri Bukit.

He said this was due to the remaining active cases in the localities showing a declining trend and remaining positive cases having received treatment with close contacts isolated.

Meanwhile, he said 269 individuals were arrested for violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) yesterday, with 250 being compounded while 16 were remanded and three released on bail.

He said 76 illegal immigrants were detained and two land vehicles were also seized.
