Joint management bodies to help residents sign-up for Covid-19 vaccine

SUBANG JAYA, April 19 — Joint management bodies (JMB) and Rukun Tetangga (KRT) groups across the state will help residents with the Covid-19 vaccination registration process, especially among the elderly.

State executive councillor for housing and urban wellbeing Rodziah Ismail said this is to ensure that the targetted group will not miss out on the second phase of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

“We have mobilised the groups and have even carried out door-to-door activities. Even though Selangor has recorded a high number of people registered (under the programme), but it is still insufficient.

“We would like to see a 99 to 100 per cent registration rate as it is important to get inoculated,” said Rodziah after the launch of the Cooperative booth of the Groom Big Entrepreneur Selangor Berhad at Subang Parade, here yesterday.

Rodziah said although the use of the vaccine was not mandatory, it could however help curb the spread of the Covid-19 infection within the community.

“I believe the ruling is clear. The ulama have decided that it allowed but we cannot predict the worries of the public. My advice is, if we want to look after ourselves, this is the best (option),” she said.

The national vaccination plan had begun nationwide on February 24 for the first phase, which had targetted 500,000 frontline workers and people’s representative to be inoculated.

The second phase, using the Pfizer-BioNTech and Sinovac vaccines, starts today until August and has targetted a total of 9.4 million vaccine recipients involving the elderly, disabled and those with comorbidities.

The third phase is scheduled from May to February 2022 and will involve individuals aged 18 and above, targeting some 13.7 million people.
