Locations of screenings involving school’s Covid-19 cases to be known tomorrow — MB

SUBANG JAYA, April 25 — The locations of the targeted Covid-19 screenings involving school students and staff will be known tomorrow, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said the locations are determined based on the residence of the infected individual to curb the spread of the infection within the local community.

“Last Friday we had a meeting with National Security Council regarding the cases in schools. If it is involving boarding schools, it would be easier to contain the outbreak but that is not the case for daily schools.

“Therefore, we won’t be looking into the schools only but the community as well. We will review the radius (distance), who were infected and where they are residing,” he said after launching the pedestrian walkway at the USJ 13/2 playground, here today.

Amirudin said the move was made after receiving a report from the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) on the spread of the infection among the children of its staff.

“MBSA had carried out Covid-19 screening for the children of its employees whose schools were closed. From the 10 that were screened, two had tested positive. If we ignore this, it would give an impact on the local council.

“This is a serious matter and the community screening has to be carried out soon. The students may not be of high risk but we also have to think of the teachers who may have chronic illnesses,” he said.

Yesterday, the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) was implemented at Sekolah Menengah (SM) Sains Banting, Kuala Langat, until May 7 after a Form 1 student was detected to have Covid-19 symptoms on April 12.

On April 19, a total of 19 schools in Selangor were closed for seven days to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
