LZS: Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat have highest number of zakat recipients

PUCHONG, April 12 — The Klang, Petaling and Hulu Langat districts have the most number of zakat recipients according to the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS), with RM14.6mln out of the RM28 million collected distributed to the asnaf fakir, miskin and mualaf in the state this year.

LZS asnaf distribution operations division chief, Abdul Basith Hamid, said these districts in Selangor recorded the highest number of asnaf fakir and miskin who are victims of urban poverty.

He said that although these districts have many industrial areas, as well as government and private offices, the income is low and insufficient to pay for necessities.

“Over here, the bulk (of the recipients) is the urban poor because there are more people here than in the kampung (village),” he said.

Abdul Basith said Klang has the highest number of recipients at 11,962 and given a total RM5,183,300.

“This is followed by Petaling with RM4,927,850 distributed to 10,590 people and Hulu Langat with RM4,367,750 distributed to 9,439 people,” he said after a handover ceremony of LZS Ramadan and Raya aid to the asnaf groups by Selangor deputy mufti, Datuk Dr Anhar Opir, today.

Each person received between RM300 and RM1,000 based on the number of dependents.

Abdul Basith said a further RM3,034,500 in Ramadan and Raya aid was distributed to 6,798 recipients in Kuala Selangor; RM2,740,400 was distributed to 6,005 recipients in Gombak; and RM2,367,400 was distributed to 5,186 people in Hulu Selangor.

A total RM2,227,500 was distributed to 4,832 recipients in Kuala Langat; RM1,997,600 was distributed to 4,726 recipients in Sabak Bernam; and RM1,186,600 distributed to 2,547 recipients in Sepang.
