SHAH ALAM, April 6 — The Shah Alam City Hall (MBSA) has spent more than RM200,000 to provide food baskets to 1,884 low-income families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Department head Shahrin Ahmad said the cost of the MBSA Bakul Prihatin Programme are from donations by the council, public and plastic bag charge from 99 Speedmart.

“Selangor Socio-economic Development, Social Welfare, and Workers Empowerment Committee chairman V Ganabatirau also contributed RM10,000 for this programme.

“MBSA wants this programme to help the affected group with the approach of ‘Leaving No One Behind’ in all aspects including economy, welfare and health. The city hall wants to achieve its sustainable development goal,” he said in a statement today.

Sharin said MBSA had collaborated with 99 Speedmart through an exchange of memorandum of understanding to implement the programme.

“MBSA buys an RM50 food items package with a total cost of RM50,000 from the supermarket.

“The food basket contains basic food items including baby nutrition that will be distributed to recipients in Ramadan,” he said.
