SHAH ALAM, April 7 — The 2021 Selangor Raya e-Bazaar sale campaign aims to generate RM700 million in a ripple effect to the state economy.

Selangor Investment, Industry and Trade, Small and Medium Industries Committee chairman Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said the state is confident of achieving that target in the campaign which is to be held from April 15 to May 29.

“The previous three rounds of the Selangor e-Bazaar campaign in 2020 and 2021, had generated RM2.003 billion in a ripple effect to the economy, which includes RM79.7 million in direct sales.

“This is a very encouraging result which is why we are continuing with this year’s Raya e-Bazaar campaign,” he said during the virtual press conference on the Selangor Chinese New Year e-bazaar campaign success today.

He said this proved that the digital economy agenda utilised by the state government has effectively assisted merchants to generate more income online to weather the Covid-19 pandemic storm.

Teng added the campaigns is an assurance of the Selangor government continuing efforts to spearhead the digitalisation for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and micro-SMEs.

He said similar to the last round of the campaign, the state government will allocate RM2 million in the form of subsidised vouchers for consumers to spend on online sales platforms.

The campaign is jointly coordinated by Invest Selangor Berhad and Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) in collaboration with Shopee and Lazada – two of the most popular online sales platforms in Malaysia.
