Spanish envoy addresses Selangor’s waste management efforts — MB

SHAH ALAM, April 4 — Spanish ambassador to Malaysia Jose Miguel Corvinos Lafuente has acknowledged the Selangor government’s efforts into the waste management business with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM), says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Sharing the outcome of the meeting he had with the Spanish envoy on Facebook yesterday, the Selangor Menteri Besar said Lafuente had also noted the circular economy, which aims at reducing and eliminating waste and continuing to use safe resources to help create a more sustainable world.

“A productive meeting and exchanging opinions with HE Jose Miguel Corvinos Lafuente, Ambassador of Spain in Malaysia.

“We mutually agree on the need to expand more on the cultural side of things, especially with respect to language and translation,” he said in the post.

Amirudin had also cited his previous visit to Barcelona, Spain, in 2019 for the Smart City Expo World Congress, where he had noted some of his observations on the Spanish advanced railway engineering and accomplishments in the biotech industry.

“My visit to Barcelona was very productive as Selangor delegation made some wonderful impression as well as expanding our networking with other smart cities delegations,” he added.

During the international exhibition, the Smart Selangor Pavilion had showcased participation from the Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated (MBI) subsidiaries namely KDEBWM, SSDU Innovations Sdn Bhd, Smartsel and other state agencies.

Meanwhile, in a separate posting on Friday, Amirudin had also shared the outcome of his meeting with European Union (EU) ambassador and head of delegation to Malaysia Michalis Rokas to discuss the issue of migrant workers in the state as well as the Selangor government’s plans on helping industry workers in battling Covid-19.

“He (Rokas) expressed his concerns over the living condition of our migrant workers. With more than 400,000 living amidst the population, it is imperative to provide more hospitable and humane shelter for them as outlined in the Act 446 Amendment,” said Amirudin in reference to the amended Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990.

“Selangor will lead the way to ensure this will be taken care of.

“I also informed His Excellency on the state government’s plan on helping industry and workers battle Covid-19 especially with the execution of Preventing Outbreak at Ignition Site (POIS) and our plan to acquire vaccines for industrial workers.”

Amirudin said he and Rokas had also discussed how to mutually benefit from green technology, with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) outlined by the United Nations as guiding principles.

“May the fostered relations will continue to flourish under these storms of virus and vaccines,” he wrote.
