SHAH ALAM, April 17 — The Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) has introduced three Smart Digital Infrastructure (SDI) initiatives to accelerate digital transformation in the public sector and government-linked companies (GLCs).

Its managing director Dr Fahmi Ngah said the new components included Selangor Gigabit Network (SeGNet), Smart Selangor Hybrid Data Center (SSDC) and Local Cloud Computing which were developed in line with the target of Selangor becoming a smart state by 2025.

“This infrastructure is ready to offer the best technology that can power the digital services, applications and systems needed to operate a smart state.

“The most important thing in ensuring the success of a smart state is to develop the ‘digital layer’ and ensure that it operates well as how the human body function,” he said at the launching ceremony of the initiative which was officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the Wisma Ehsan multipurpose hall here yesterday.

SSDU as the parent body implementing the Smart Selangor programme is working with Telekom Malaysia Bhd and global cloud storage technology provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the initiative.

According to Dr Fahmi, Selangor is recognized as the first state in the country to offer a high-speed internet connection of 3 Gigabit per second (Gbps) for the public sector through SeGNet.

He explained that the SeGNet 3Gbps network is currently used in Subang Jaya City Council, Kuala Selangor District Council, Hulu Selangor District Council, Selangor C5i Smart Operations Center, SSDC and Center of Excellence at Wisma Ehsan.

“I encourage other entities in the Selangor government at all levels to adapt to the use of digital infrastructure as it ensures faster communication.

“In fact, it allows for secure and reliable data sharing with various parties,” he said.
