AMPANG, May 11 — A total of 293 positive Covid-19 cases were detected from 6,429 samples taken at six community screenings locations.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said most of the cases detected using the Antigen Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Ag) were asymptomatic.

“The number of individuals screened in each state constituencies is more than 1,000 and surpassed the initial target.

“Hopefully, the community response will continue, because our aim is to detect those who are positive Covid-19 but without symptoms (asymptomatic) and are considered as silent carriers,” she said after visiting the community screening at MPAJ Hall in Pandan Indah here today.

Meanwhile, she said individuals who are found negative should not be complacent but instead continue to improve their self-control.

“This is because they can be infected if they hang out with positive individuals, aside from failing to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP),” she said.

The Selangor government is conducting a monitoring programme in all 56 state constituencies from May 8 to June 10 to trace active Covid-19 cases in the state.

The programme had begun with the free screenings in Kajang and Semenyih on May 8, followed by Sungai Ramal, Balakong, Teratai and Dusun Tua yesterday, and today is it held at Lembah Jaya and Pandan Indah.

The state government has allocated a total of RM6 million for the free Covid-19 community testing initiative.

The programme targets the involvement of 50,000 residents covering high-density areas and low-income groups.
