SHAH ALAM, May 13 — The Selangor Menteri Besar celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri in moderation with his family at his official residence in Section 7 here today.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari started the day with the ‘Takbir Raya’ recitation with his wife, Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, and children before leading the Aidilfitri prayer.

He then delivered the Aidilfitri sermon, titled ‘Aidilfitri Mengagung Ilahi, Menyatu Hati’, issued by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) Mosque Management Division Sermon Unit.

In the sermon, he said Muslims must be kind to their parents and relatives even though they cannot physically meet.

He said family relationships could still be continued under the new norm in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) such as social distancing.

“We can communicate using technology such as video conferencing, WhatsApp and other various ways including by sending food packages,” he said.

Amirudin also called on Muslims, especially in Selangor, to be grateful for the peace they have, compared to fellow believers in Palestine.

“We are still given the opportunity to go to the mosque, perform prayers and celebrate the festival, but Palestinians are barred from entering the mosque, and even attacked by rockets, leading to deaths.

“Therefore, I call on all parties to donate food, drinks and equipment to the Palestinian people,” he said.

Amirudin and his family who wore matching green-coloured Hari Raya outfits also snapped photos as memories on the morning of Aidilfitri and performed the tradition of ‘memohon maaf’ (seeking forgiveness) with each other before enjoying the traditional festive meal.
