Covid-19 infection among children, infants worrying — Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — Covid-19 infection among children and infants is a cause for concern as they have become the groups at risk after the elderly, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.

He said the matter should be taken as a wake-up call and measures must be implemented to protect these groups from infection.

“Health Ministry data shows that as of today, 48,261 children and infants have contracted Covid-19 and 6,290 of them are infants 18 months of age or younger.

“Therefore, parents must constantly monitor to ensure that their children do not play outside their homes, wear face masks and often use sanitisers,” he said in his daily statement on the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Ismail said adults held the responsibility of protecting children and infants from getting infected by the virus.

He said that besides complying with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), adults should also subject themselves and their families to self lockdown to avoid getting infected.
