Malaysia’s Aerodyne partners Thai firms to provide drone solutions

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 — Homegrown Aerodyne Group has formed a joint-venture (JV) company with Thailand’s AI and Robotics Ventures Company Limited (ARV) and Digital Creation Co., Ltd. (DC) called AeroSky (Thailand) Company Limited to provide drone-based enterprise solutions across the Thailand market.

Aerodyne, a global drone services company based in Cyberjaya, holds a 34 per cent participating interest while ARV and DC each hold 33 per cent interest in the JV company registered in Thailand.

In a joint statement today, the companies said the JV would capitalise on the digital transformation trend and opportunities.

“To provide unparalleled services to clients in the telecommunications, electricity, oil and gas, and other infrastructure-led industries, the business will combine core strengths of ARV’s expertise in the provision of drones and sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic solutions, Aerodyne Group’s integrated drone and software-as-a-service solutions, and DC’s leading-edge machine learning and monitoring technologies.”

AeroSky will also allow infrastructure inspection and monitoring to be of better quality, quicker, and at a lower cost. The services would also mitigate the risk of working at heights that usually necessitate scaffolding.

ARV general manager Dr Thana Slanvetpan said AeroSky’s customers would benefit from ARV’s ability to develop smart drones and platforms that meet industry-specific needs and have an extensive market network.

“This JV will also serve as a forum to further unlock value in the Thai market,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Aerodyne founder and group chief executive officer (CEO) Kamarul A Muhamed said there is an urgent need for infrastructure owners of ageing assets to sustain and ensure that their assets continue to operate at their optimum levels until that gap is closed.

“This is where our JV, AeroSky, will provide asset management and inspection solutions that are faster, more cost-efficient, and, in many ways, safer.”

DC CEO Thanarat Leetrakul opined that AeroSky has many strong sustainable competitive advantages in multiple areas in the unmanned aerial vehicles or UAV industry.

“There’s a scalable innovation partner in Aerodyne. There’s a partner that can immediately serve the needs, with quantifiable benefits for its own group of companies in ARV.

“We hope to bring our know-how in both the sales and marketing, and product localisation into this tri-party venture,” he said.

ARV is a wholly-owned technology subsidiary of Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), dedicated to providing solutions to complex problems using AI and robotics technology, while DC is a leading technology-based company that specialises in bringing the most innovative global solutions to the Thai market.
