New economic stimulus package if MCO 3.0 extended — MB

By Mustakim Ramli

SERDANG, May 15 — The state government has not ruled out the possibility of helping the people through a new economic stimulus package if the movement control order (MCO) 3.0 is prolonged.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the current situation on Covid-19 transmission will also be taken into account if there is a sudden spike in cases in the state.

“It depends on the duration of how long or not Covid-19 or MCO is implemented.

“However, this MCO is not like MCO 1.0 where we close all economic activities, this time we still allow it even if it is only 30 per cent,” he said after visiting the Covid-19 Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) 2.0 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) in Serdang yesterday.

Meanwhile, Amirudin admitted that there was pressure from some quarters to completely close down economic activities in Selangor.

He said the matter was due to the critical situation, especially in the usage of beds in the intensive care unit (ICU) which showed a sharp increase.

“Incidents at the workplace between February and May were also high at between 40 to 45 per cent, but within the last five to six days, the cases are under control at around 20 per cent,” he added.
