Selangor’s Covid-19 cases expected to drop in June — Exco

AMPANG, May 12 — Covid-19 cases in Selangor is expected to drop in June following the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) 3.0, says state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

She said it could be achieved if all parties are not complacent in following the standard operating procedures (SOP) during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

“If we really abide by the SOP, the effects from the festival celebration can be seen after two weeks. So, maybe in June (we) can see Covid-19 cases going down.

“We are confident because the public cannot move freely due to restriction on activities such interdistrict and interstates travel as well visiting during Syawal,” she said during a visit to the free Covid-19 screening at the MPAJ Hall in Pandan Indah here yesterday.

According to the Seri Serdang assemblyman, the implementation of MCO is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all.

“There are some criticisms towards the Health Ministry (MoH) and the government because more screenings should have been conducted during the previous MCOs but that did not happen.

“People are fed up, but what options do we have? We waited for the vaccine, yet it has yet to arrive because of the problem with the supplier…this is the problem, when we (state government) have the money but cannot buy it,” she added.

Currently, positive Covid-19 cases in Selangor consistently recorded four figures with 1,149 recorded on Monday and 1,328 yesterday.
