Allow Parliament sitting to discuss pandemic, set aside political differences

By Sheeda Fathil

SHAH ALAM, June 10 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari calls upon both opposition and government leaders to set aside their political differences and focus on resolving the Covid-19 pandemic.

Amirudin said he believed that the problem in the rising number of cases could be resolved if Parliament sitting was allowed and conducted in harmony during this critical moment.

“I believe that if the Parliament convenes, for example in a harmonious atmosphere, the discussion that follows will be clear and positive, from the context of problem-solving.

“At this critical moment, I call on myself as a political actor, to get us to solve this problem together or overcome this issue well,” he said in a live talk show titled ‘Kita Selangor Package 2.0: Strategy to Manage Covid-19, Strengthen Economy’ on Astro Awni last night.

Amirudin had also urged all parties to stay calm and be willing to accept different views to ensure the welfare of the people is taken care.

The Parliament has yet to reconvene since its last sitting in December last year when the 2021 Budget was tabled and approved.

Since the state of Emergency was declared by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on January 12, the Parliament session was also suspended until August 1 or earlier.
