Covid-19: 5,671 new infections Thursday, Selangor remain highest

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Malaysia reported 5,671 new Covid-19 infections over the past 24 hours, a slight drop compared to the 6,239 cases recorded yesterday.

Heath director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a Twitter post, said Selangor remained the state with the highest daily cases reported with 1,510 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (769); Sarawak (631); Negeri Sembilan (593); Johor (524); Kedah (309); Kelantan (262) and Sabah (233).

Melaka reported 184 cases; Penang (166); Perak (143); Pahang (112); Terengganu (108); Labuan (106); Putrajaya (18); and Perlis (three).

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham in a statement said 7,325 recoveries were recorded in the past 24 hours, and active cases stand at 79,848 cases currently, with 911 cases requiring treatment at intensive care units (ICU), 462 of them on respiratory support.

A total of 73 deaths were reported today, 29 of them in Selangor, Johor (11), Negeri Sembilan (eight), four each in Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Penang, Pahang (three), Kelantan (two), and one each in Melaka, Sabah, Terengganu and Perak.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced 22 new clusters, 18 of them involving workplaces, three community clusters and one religious cluster, the Kampung Lobou cluster in Sabah.

The workplace clusters are Industri Kampung Jaya, Jalan Dua Olak Lempit, Jalan Perindustrian Balakong Jaya Dua, Jalan Tiga Salak Tinggi, Jalan Tanjung Klang and Alam Perdana construction site in Selangor; Ploteknologi, Jalan Besar Batu Enam, Jalan Bukit Satu Zink, Jalan Bandar Pasir Gudang, Jalan Seri Austin and Jalan Lee Bah Chai (Johor).

Other workplace clusters are Jalan Perusahaan Maju Empat, Lebuh Sungai Tiram Satu and Jalan Besar Perai in Penang; Tapak Bina Jalan Kolam Air (Kuala Lumpur); Dah Pekan Baru (Kedah); and Jalan SS Lapan Empat covering three states, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya.

The community clusters meanwhile involve Bali Pie and Jalan Samarakan in Sarawak, as well as Kampung Lakai in Negeri Sembilan.
