Home visits for outreach programme attract elderlies to get vaccine

SHAH ALAM, June 24 — A targeted and well-organised approach should be implemented to convince senior citizens and vaccine-hesitant individuals to get their shots.

Selangor Task Force Operations (STFO) director Dr Mohammad Farhan Rusli said the best approach includes door-to-door visits to help clear out their confusion.

“The process is indeed quite challenging and tiring, but it has to be done so that they understand exactly what the vaccine is and the importance of this injection.

“If it is not implemented, I am afraid it will be hard to achieve herd immunity,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Dr Mohammad Farhan also praised the initiatives done by the state government to help in vaccine registration for those who are having difficulties in doing so.

He also advised those who have received their vaccination appointment dates to follow the schedule.

On April 4, the state government launched the Covid-19 Immunisation Outreach programme (ImuniSel) to help Selangor people with vaccine registrations, including the elderly and Orang Asli groups.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the move was initiated because, according to the figure from the Statistic Department in 2019, 37 per cent of the households in the state do not have smartphones.

On June 15, the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has agreed to expedite vaccination in Selangor to 135,000 daily by July, and it is expected to increase to 165,000 by August.
